Division Four West Milford Haven 7 Amman United 10

8:40am Wednesday 18th January 2012

HAVING beaten the league leaders on their own ground the previous week, Amman United’s second tough task in the space of a few days saw them make the trip west to take on another in-form side in the shape of Milford Haven.

The Pembrokeshire-outfit are currently third in the table with a game in hand on second-placed Amman.

As expected, the fixture saw two well-matched sides go head-to-head, but the sides managed to cancel each other out at times as defences dominated.

A powerful home side - boosted by a notable Whitland and Narberth contingent - played well in a tight encounter where both sides struggled on a tricky pitch in tough conditions and a deceptive wind.

Amman’s promising start paid dividends when they took the lead with a wellworked try as a powerful break saw prop Emyr Lewis crossing the whitewash.

Rhys Thomas added the conversion for a handy 7-0 lead, but a converted corner try brought the home side back into the game.

Thomas then sent over a penalty to regain theAmman advantage just before halftime.

Both sides tried hard in a closely-fought second half, but the defences proved watertight and there was no further score asAmmanheld on for a second notable away scalp in succession thanks to an excellent all-round team performance.

The Amman now find themselves just five points behind league leaders Llanelli Wanderers, who themselves make the trip to Milford this weekend.

Amman meanwhile are set to meet another West Walian side on Saturday as Aberaeron travel south to Cwmamman Park.
