Cwm Wanderers 1 Bryn Rovers 3 Neath Premier League
11:27am Wednesday 17th March 2010
BRYN travelled to Cwm still locked in battle for the league title with only five games remaining and every point crucial.
Within a minute of the kick-off Bryn’s Matthew Preston failed to close down a Cwm attacker out wide, gifting him time and space to find a cross.
Unselfishly, the opposite Cwm winger gathered the cross following countless missed headers and returned the ball for a lone Cwm striker to direct the ball into the back of the net from short range.
Incensed by their defensive failings, Bryn pushed forward and began to dominate.
With less than quarter of an hour played Bryn found the net as midfielder Tom Hurley found striker Phil Eady who further extended his scoring rampage to nine goals in four games by slotting the ball beyond the reach of the Cwm keeper.
Immediately after the equaliser Bryn looked sure to double their lead but an unmarked Nicky Jones blasted the ball over from 12 yards.
Ten minutes into the second half, Bryn winger Rhodri Thomas was awarded a free-kick as he was brought down outside the Cwm penalty area.
With incredible accuracy he slotted the ball into the top left corner from 23 yards for his first goal in seven games – doubling rewarding as it came against his former club.
With three points in sight, Bryn secured the result on 78 minutes when a cross-shot from Chris Marland found the net.
