Runners defy cold and break records
12:50pm Thursday 18th March 2010
LLANDOVERY’S first Santa Fun Run took place on Sunday, December 13, starting from and returning to the Market Square.
The competitors braved a very cold morning and finished the course in record time.
Some of the fastest were the winners in the children’s category – Rebecca and Izaak Davies aged 11 and 8 and nine-year-old Lloyd Morgan.
Members of the Llandovery and District Carnival Association wish to thank all the competitors, St John Ambulance, the NCPCC for providing refreshments, the mayor; Helene Lovell, Alan Preston and everyone who attended what is hoped will become a very popular future event.
The carnival association is already organising an exciting programme for this year, starting with the selection of Carnival Queens, which will follow a different format this year.
Residents are advised to look out for posters and follow developments on the Facebook group, Llandovery & District Carnival.
Carnival Day will be on Monday, May 31, at Llandovery Rugby Club.
“If you can offer any support to the carnival, please let us know,” said a spokeswoman.
“We are also appealing for any stallholders, including food sellers, local shopkeepers and similar to bring their wares to the carnival this year. We started a stalls section on the field last year, which was welcomed and successful.
“At this time, pitches are free, donations welcome.
“Stallholders would need to have their own stall, tent, and table.
